Voldemort Can’t Stop the Rock!!!

March 14, 2005

Last Thursday Michelle and I went downtown to ASS220 to see Harry and The Potters. We got there while the second opening band was still playing, and we had to endure the third opener Camelia’s entire set. It was torture relieved only slightly by the dancing pirate in the audience. I can’t even begin to tell you how revolting the lead singer was.

Anyway, Harry and The Potters were soooo awesome! When we got there we sat in the only availible seats, which just so happened to be right next to Joe and Paul (Harry 4th year and Harry 7th year). I got to talk to Joe, the little one. He’s a senior in high school and is going to Clark next year on a scholarship where he plans to be some sort of biology major…I can’t remember exactly what…) I asked him how the tour of England was (since they just got back). So it was cool that we got to talk to the guys before they played. Anyway, they started around 11:30 or so, and played almost all their songs.
They opened with “Voldemort Can’t stop the Rock,” complete with jumping into the audience. They were hysterical. I had more fun than I even thought possible. Much wizard dancing ensued.

They also played the following in no particular order:

Wizard Chess, Platform 9 and 3/4, The Foil, Gryfindor Rocks, My Teacher is a Werewolf, These Days Are Dark, The Weapon, Save Ginny Weasley, Cornelius Fudge Is An Ass, I Am a Wizard, The Godfather, The Godfather Part Two, The Wrath of Hermione, Fluffy, The Human Hosepipe, The Weasel, Problem Solving Skillz, and my personal favorite, Stick It To Dolores.

We want them to come play The RISD tap room. That would be so awesome. I can’t wait to see them again. SO GOOD.

Quick update

March 7, 2005

It’s been a while since my last entry…so here’s a quick catch up as to the state of things…

I’m back at school for second semester…it’s going allright, I like my classes, but I can’t seem to get back into school mode…hopefully I’ll get out of my funk shortly. I’m taking a computer/design class and I don’t know the programs we are using so it’s stressing me out cos not only do I have to do assignments with them, I have to learn them from scratch in the process…I’m taking photo and loving it, even if my pictures are uninspired…my book class is frustating me most surprisingly enough…two weeks in a row I’ve been struggling for ideas for the assignments…which is never fun.

We had the housing lottery for next year and we got our first choice. Next year me, Michelle, and Cory will be sharing a three bedroom apartment in the brand new RISD building across the canal. I’ll be literally across the street from the illustration building and my studio! yay! I’m so excited…we have a total of some 1000+ square feet (the size of my entire downstairs at home)…I can’t wait.

Saturday night I finally got the chance to see a long lost best friend…It had been close to 5 years since I last saw Melissa and I had a really good time. She picked me up and we went to her house for some pre-birthday pizza and pie. Then we went to see The Pacifier, which was as expected rather silly. But it was entertaining even if the dialogue and plot were cringe worthy… I was surprised at how comfortable I was the whole time– I was afraid that it would be awkward, but I guess even years of not seeing someone can be surpassed if the relationship was important enough to begin with… I was just so happy to see the Mazur family again. Hopefully now that we’ve taken the first step, we can continue to get together every once in a while and get to know each other again.

Well, that’ll be it for now. I have to go do more work before class.
