Developments

Wow. SO much is happening right now it’s unbelievable!

Last weekend Adam and I spent the day in Cambridge riding around with a real estate agent looking for our future apartment. We saw 7 places in four hours, most of which I would never have even considered actually inhabiting out of fear of contracting some kind of disease or being mistaken for a crack house. But luckily, the last place we saw was perfect! It’s in a block of brownstones near Inman Square. It’s on the third floor, has a decent kitchen, living room, bedroom, porch, and study. It was super clean and cute and had refinished hardwood floors. We submitted our application and were approved by Monday! So it looks like we’ll either be moving in February 2nd or the 10th, as we can’t move in on the third as we would like, on account of it being the Super Bowl. Oh well!

Other news:

I’ve finished all the interior illustrations for my book, only the cover remains. But I was unexpectedly struck with the norovirus yesterday and have been completely nonfunctional on account. On the one hand, I’ve thrown up 7 times in 24 hours, but haven’t actually eaten anything since Tuesday night. On the other hand, I’ve lost 5 pounds in that same time. Not that I would recommend this form of dieting.

The weirdest thing is that it has been like twelve years since I last threw up, so I didn’t even remember what it was like. It’s alot more violent and semi-comical than I remember— sort of like that Family guy episode when they all have the ipecac drinking contest. Ugh.

Luckily, my editor has been very understanding and has given me the weekend to recover and finish the cover. I will be so ridiculously thrilled when I can put Belva behind me. What a couple of months!

Also, last Tuesday evening I had a phone interview with an editor at Barefoot Books, a children’s book company in Cambridge. I’ve applied for a design and marketing assistant position there. The interview went really well and I felt like even if I didn’t make it to the meet and greet interview stage, at least I didn’t completely blow the phone interview. So I had my fingers crossed all week to get an email inviting me to come in and meet the team–part two of the interview process. And that very thing happened Tuesday night. I’m so excited about it! I’ll be going up to Cambridge next Tuesday to hopefully convince them that I am perfect for the position— or at least the most passionate candidate they’re going to meet! It would be the most amazing thing ever to work at a place I really respect, watching and learning and experiencing all aspects of the publishing industry. I’m not exactly sure what the job will specifically entail, but I know it has something to do with attending trade shows, promoting and selling to vendors, designing promotional materials and the like. Even it its not a total creative position I think it’s exactly the type of job I want from 9-5. And to be able to move to Cambridge knowing I have a secure job is momentous. I really hope all the pieces fall into place.

So for now, I’m going to take it easy and continue to recover and rehydrate my raisin-like body. With a little luck I’ll be up and about and ready to get back to work tomorrow. And by Monday, I can say bye-bye to Belva!

I LOVE MY LIFE.
